MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Green Team added five Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicles to it's county car fleet.
The team now has a total of 10 hybrid cars. The new addition is just one of the team's many initiatives to go green.
The group made up of Bibb County leaders, has taken the pledge to work together to preserve the environment.
Charise Stephens with Middle Georgia Clean Air Coalition called the group "the best green team in the region".
Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart says they are not just the best, but they are the first.
"Bibb county has led the way in going green in this community, we were the first community in the state of Georgia to incorporate hybrids in the county fleet," Hart says.
Since its start nearly three years ago, the group saved thousands of tax dollars in its efforts. The county has switched from majority printed checks to Direct Deposit. It has reduced printed time sheets and started using an electronic system. It has reduced it's computer size and overall energy use.
The group says it plans on installing a vehicle charging station in the near future.
