MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local nonprofit is getting a big donation from Walmart as part of its "12 Days of Giving" holiday campaign.
The Mentor's Project of Bibb County is one of hundreds of nonprofits across the country receiving the donations. The non-profit matches mentors with at-risk students and works with these children in every way possible. The organization helps provide shelter, food, clothing, school supplies, and financial assistance for these children and their families.
The Mentor's Project is receiving $15,000 to help achieve their mission.
June O'Neal, the executive director of the Mentor's Project, says she can't believe they were chosen and she is extremely grateful for the donation.
"In this economy, just want an amazing blessing. You don't have money fall out of the sky like that," she said. "Its just unheard of and right here at Christmas time when there are so many needs."
Over twelve consecutive days, Walmart will award a total of $1.5 million to 140 organizations across the country. The Mentor's Project was picked from more than 20,000 nominations.
