ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say a metro Atlanta sheriff has been hospitalized with minor injuries after a crash in Atlanta.
A Georgia State Patrol spokesman says Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren was taken to Grady Hospital after an accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 Thursday afternoon.
Officials say the driver of a truck pulling a trailer lost control, veered across the southbound lanes and hit the sheriff and his chief deputy. The truck driver was charged with failure to maintain lane.
Officials said the chief deputy was also injured, but was not hospitalized.
Helicopters from local news outlets showed emergency responders attending to a damaged white SUV that was blocking two lanes of the freeway.
