ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities asked residents in the area of a major water main break east of Atlanta to boil their water as a precaution.
Crews in DeKalb County early Friday were continuing efforts to repair the break, which on Thursday shut down Clairmont Road, a main artery through the suburban county.
Authorities say the road was shut down in both directions after the 30-inch water main broke shortly before noon Wednesday in the 2900 block of Clairmont. By Friday morning, one lane in each direction had reopened in the area of the Century Center office complex and Interstate 85.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that water pressure must be reduced for the repairs, prompting the advisory to boil water.
CBS Atlanta reports that damage to the road is expected to take several days to fix.
