LYNCHBURG, VA - Luis Salazar is back to work, and expecting an emotional return.
The manager of the Atlanta Braves' Class A Carolina League team hasn't been on the job since he was struck in the left eye by a line drive during a spring training game on March 9.
The 54-year-old Salazar lost his eye after being hit by a ball off the bat of Braves catcher Brian McCann, and remembers nothing beyond seeing the ball coming. The impact knocked him unconscious, and he broke a bone in his right forearm when he collapsed onto the hard dugout floor.
His return comes on opening night for the Lynchburg Hillcats, and Salazar says it will be an emotional night with his wife in the stands and fans expected to give him a big welcome.
