FONTANA, Calif. (AP) - When Will Power coughed up his championship chances last year by crashing in the season finale, Ed Carpenter apparently said everyone expected that from Power.
After all, it was the third consecutive year Power had thrown away a title.
That quote stuck with the Australian this entire season, and he used it as motivation to prove to everyone he can indeed race and win on ovals. He succeeded Saturday night with a victory at Auto Club Speedway, where he came full, well, oval from last year's devastating collapse.
It was just the second oval victory for Power, but closed out a season in which he was running at the end of all six oval races and accomplished several personal and professional goals.
